Rainy Days & Nights Frolic Room

Rainy Days and Nights at the Frolic Room, January 14, 2023

Patrick and Timothy are wearing their powder blue tuxedos at the bar in the Frolic Room on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. The rain keeps pouring down outside. The street gutters are full of rushing water. The rain pelts the roof of the bar and its roof gutters gush their load of rain onto the street and sidewalk.

The boys have been drinking since New Years Day. Their powder blue tuxedos need a good cleaning. Their bow ties are askew and their pants are stained. They have beard stubble on their faces and their eyes are bloodshot.

Eddie, the bartender, pretends not to notice.

Eddie: How you boys doin’?

Patrick: Another round, Eddie if you please.

Timothy: I think I’ll go over to the jukebox and play “Rainy Night in Georgia” again.

Patrick: No. Play that Albert Hammond song, “It Never Rains in Southern California”.

Both boys and Eddie then sing together: But when it does. It poooouuuurs. Baby, it pours.”

Patrick: Eddie, any more beer nuts back there?

Eddie: Sure. Another full case.

Timothy: Thank God for beer nuts. Keep a man alive.

Eddie: Maybe you boys should go home if you got a home.
Patrick: We like the Frolic Room just fine.

Timothy: And we like you, Eddie. This place is home.

The rain continues to fall in sheets outside. The LA River is full in its concrete gully as it rushes to the sea wiping out hundreds of homeless tents and encampments on the way.

The City of Angels is getting a righteous flood from the heavens. Sin is being swept out to sea.

Patrick: Or maybe it’s just raining a lot.

Timothy: Yeah, like in the old Bogart movie “The Big Sleep”. It rained all throughout that movie in old LA.

Patrick: Maybe we should write a new Raymond Chandler style story.

Timothy: Plenty of crooks and crooked politicians and bureaucrats around to choose from.

Eddie: You need some names? Ask me.

The boys sip their drinks and eat their beer nuts as Albert Hammond sings about the rain in southern California.
