Childhood Rhyme

Skipping Rope

Childhood Rhyme, October 14th, 2024

The peppers get ripe.
The peppers get red.
Mummy and Daddy
Are still in bed.

Little Tom Sleepyhead
Can’t get up neither.
He ain’t breathin’
Like he’s had the ether.

Ain’t nobody talkin’
The clock is tickin’
Ain’t nobody walkin’
The cat ain’t lickin’

Everythin’ quiet
Can’t hear a peep.
Ain’t nobody snorin’
Are they’s all asleep?

They’s glowin’ a bit.
Kinda green and pink.
They’s eyes bulged out.
They’s startin’ to stink.

Get the shovel.
Make a hole right quick.
Get the yeller backhoe.
Ha! That’s the trick.

Bury ‘em deep.
Bury ‘em fast.
Bury ‘em under.
Gone at last.
Gone at last.
Gone at last.
They’s gone now.
They’s in the past.

Gone at last.
Gone at last.
They’s gone now.
They’s passed.
