Our Tax Collector is Nervous

Our Tax Collector is Nervous, January 24th, 2020
My wife and I have been hiring the same tax lady for over twenty
years to do our taxes. Here in the USA Federal and State taxes are
complicated. Unless you are a wage/tax slave grunt, you need a tax
expert to figure out what you owe to the state you are in and the
thieves in DC.
For twenty plus years I would just call up our tax lady and say, “I’m
bringing down the documents and let me know when you have our
taxes done.” I usually bring shamrock necklaces for the tax crew as
it is around St. Patrick’s Day.
Every January our tax lady sends us a letter telling us what
documents to bring and we have to sign a waiver or some such
thing so she can do our taxes and send in the forms and our
payments to Sacramento and DC.
Well, today we received our usual letter from the tax lady, but it had
this paragraph in it:
“To better serve you and protect client privacy we will be keeping
our office door locked. If you have an appointment you will press a
button by the door and we will receive you. Appointments will be
made by phone only.” Our Tax Lady.
I realize that tax collectors have never been popular in human
history.

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector
19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name
of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who
Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran
ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that
way.
5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come
down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once
and welcomed him gladly.
7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a
sinner.”
8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give
half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I
will pay back four times the amount.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too,
is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
The Jews hated tax collectors. I’d be thrilled if the DC and Sacramento
governments gave me back 1/2 the money they stole from me.
Maybe next year our tax collector will have armed guards at her office.
