The Powder Blue Tuxedo Boys Fight The LA Fire
Timothy and Patrick are, as usual, in the Frolic Room on Hollywood Boulevard, sitting in their booth. They are drinking Beck’s Beers. It’s a very windy day. The Santa Ana winds are howling.
Timothy: I hope we don’t lose power.
The juke box dies half way through “Light My Fire” by The Doors. The lights flicker and go off. The TV goes black.
Patrick: You just had to say it, didn’t you?
Eddie: I just got an alert on my phone. There’s a fire in the Palisades. Looks like a big one.
Patrick: I’ll call Mayor Bass. She owes us.
Timothy: I think she’s in Ghana. Not gonna Ghana answer.
Patrick: I’ll call Uncle Charlie. He works for Fox 11 TV News. He knows the chopper pilots.
Patrick: Uncle Charlie! What’s going on in the Palisades?…that bad…really bad…What, no water in the hydrants?…Thanks.
Timothy: That didn’t sound good.
Eddie: Maybe we can help. There are some firefighter costumes next door at the Pantages Theater.
Patrick: There’s an old firetruck on display at the County Museum.
Timothy: I can get that running in no time. A new battery, some gas, we are on our way.
Eddie: I’ll go get the fire outfits from the theater.
The boys load up the gear in Eddie’s truck. They stop at a car parts store to get a new battery, and some gas cans. They fill up the gas cans at a fuel station. They soon arrive at the museum.
Patrick picks the lock and the boys are in. Eddie puts gas in the firetruck. Timothy puts in the new battery. Patrick fires up the truck.
Patrick: It’s alive!
Eddie, Patrick, and Timothy put on their fire gear from the theater and get in the truck.
Eddie: The truck is going to need water in the water tank.
Timothy: I saw a garden hose out back.
Patrick: We’ll use that.
With the truck full of fuel and water, the firefighting trio headed west to fight the Palisades Fire.
Patrick drives down the Pacific Coast Highway into a firestorm.
Timothy: Look! Over there! Moku Sushi is catching fire.
Patrick: Well, it’s always been very popular.
Eddie: No. It’s on fire.
Patrick: We must save the sushi. It’s the best sushi in LA.
Timothy: Let’s go!
Patrick drives up to Moku Sushi and the trio put out the hoses and spray water at the blaze. The wind just whips the water away. The restaurant goes up in flames.
Patrick: That tuna isn’t raw anymore.
Timothy: Well cooked for sure.
Eddie: The truck is out of water. I think we should head back to the Frolic Room.
Timothy: Good idea. We’ve done what we can.
Patrick: I love this truck and siren. Do you think we can keep it?
