Art is the Soul

Fifth Avenue Theater, Seattle, Washington
Stuart Theater, Lincoln, Nebraska

When I was a kid, the school would bus us to the Stuart Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska. This is a beautiful Spanish/Moroccan Rococo-style space with three balconies. We saw concerts there and musicals. It also showed movies. I believe it has been restored, but I am not sure.
The Stuart Building is Art Deco and one of the best in Lincoln.
30 years ago or so, I had a 26-year-old live-in girlfriend who looked like a Playboy bunny. I was 43. I bought tickets to “Carousel,” a New York City production playing at the Fifth Avenue Theater in Seattle, Washington.
Julie had never been to a real theater or seen a real musical before. I had to push her to get ready on time. The curtain up waits for no one.
We barely made it in time. I was unable to even get a beer in the basement bar below the theater before the show. We had great seats. About 30 rows back, center, on the main floor.
Julie was stunned. She was amazed. Julie had never seen anything like the theater or the musical live and in person.
It’s very sad to lose the magic. What else is life about?
